GRAFOIL® flexible graphite is a superior performing packing and gasket material. It is the first fluid sealing material made exclusively from natural graphite flake. As a result, its resistance to corrosion, aggressive chemicals, heat and fire make it a critical sealing solution for a variety of applications.

What is the difference between grafoil and graphite?

The name Grafoil® is the original brand name of flexible graphite owned by GrafTech, a company founded in 1886. Grafoil® material was first introduced by Union Carbide in the 1960s. Flexible graphite is 95% – 99% carbon. Flexible graphite is inert to most chemicals, and resistant to heat up to several thousand degrees.

What is grafoil sheet?

Graphite Foil sheets or Grafoil sheets are cut from our production rolls and stocked. The sheets are an excellent sealing material for high temperature, high-pressure transfer of liquids, gasses, steam, chemicals, and corrosives.

PTFE Packing or Teflon Packing is braided with high purity PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene, Teflon) filament. PTFE Packing can be used as a valve and pump packing material. It is especially good for corrosive media, high speed application, or applications that require clean and minimum contamination material.

Graphite packing is a highly resistant sealant used in systems with valves, faucets, and stuffing boxes, as well as other machines with watertight mechanical parts. The resulting graphite packing string is called a “yarn”. These yarns are then braided to increase their tensile strength and durability.

How do you use stem packing?

Repack a stem seal on a valve Wrap one wind of stem packing rope around the stem. Tighten the packing nut and open the valve. If it still leaks, back off the packing nut and add a few more winds of packing rope.
