What is CADD PCA?
The CADD-Prizm® pump can be carried with you and is designed to deliver medication into your body. PCA stands for patient controlled analgesia. Your physician will prescribe your medication specifically for you.

The PCA pump contains your pain medicine. Usually that medicine is morphine, but other painkilling drugs are sometimes used. The pump is connected through a tube to a vein in your body. You press a button when you feel pain and the pump gives you a dose of medicine set by your doctor.
What is a PCA pump used for?
A computerized pump attached to the IV lets you release pain medicine by pressing a handheld button. PCA can be used in the hospital to ease pain after surgery. Or it can be used for painful conditions like pancreatitis or sickle cell disease. It also works well for people who can’t take medicines by mouth.

all patients on PCA. tubing may be changed with every bag change (or every 3 days for daily bag changes).
How do you change the rate on a CADD pump?
- TO CHANGE VOLUME, RATE, BOLUS ( Patient Version) Stop pump by pressing STOP/START.
- Once pump is unlocked, proceed with the following:
- Press “Y”
- ***green light will be blinking at the top of the pump while running and.
- notify of “Low Reservoir Volume”.
Which drug is used for PCA?
In most cases, PCA pumps supply opioid pain-controlling medicines such as morphine, fentanyl and hydromorphone. The pump is attached to a thin, flexible tube (intravenous or IV line) that is placed in your vein.
