Overall, the Tecton is about average in ease of use. Getting in to the toe pieces is easier than most tech bindings. First, Fritschi bindings are the only ones we tested that can be switched from ski to tour mode without taking the ski off. This is nice when your ski route goes from steep to flat or gently downhill.

Freestyle bindings and freeride bindings are generally a non-lifted binding with a focus of retention vs release. These bindings have less float and more grip on the boot. Some lower-end freestyle bindings may not be suitable for heavyweights and aggressive skiers.

How do you adjust Fritschi Diamir bindings?

Length adjustment is done with the screw at back end of the binding rail. Next, with the boot in the binding, adjust the length screw a few turns in or out so that it’s exactly flush with the rear surface of the rail. Take care to get this right.

  1. Push the heel unit tower forward so that WALK is displayed vertically.
  2. Either hold brake pad down while pushing unit forward or press down firmly afterwards to raise brakes.
  3. Open toe unit jaws by pressing down on toe lever, window will display OPEN.

How do you mount a Fritschi Vipec?

Simple, dry mount the toe unit first in position so boot falls on the ski where you want it. Next, be sure heel unit is in downhill mode, adjust fore/aft position midway on the mounting plate, set heel unit on ski behind boot and slide pins into boot heel so you approximate where the heel unit will end up when mounted.

Can I use at boots with alpine bindings?

MOST AT boots and alpine boots will work with MOST frame AT bindings (Marker, Salomon/Atomic, Tyrolia, Fritschi), but be sure to check the manufacturer’s recommendations. AT boots with rockered ISO 9523 Touring soles are not compatible with many Alpine bindings. Even if they “fit”, release may not be consistent.

Telemark skis utilizes a free-heel much like cross country skis do, while alpine touring skis have bindings that allow the skier to have a free heel on the ascent and then lock down the heel before the descent, effectively turning it into a traditional alpine ski.
