what i did last night: family van!

Filed under: personal, products — admin @ 10:01 pm

my niece Nicole & i live together.

and we really wanted to do something together, a “collaboration” if you may. so we decided to make soy candles in rejected-thrift store glasses…we call our collaboration: family van

my father, way back when, used to take the 2 of us, in the back of his van- without seats around town and would roll us around with his crazy driving. we had so much fun…laughing at the sharp turns and stops…no thought of a seatbelt…really no thought in the world but rolling around like, “jumping beans” as he would call us.

my father has been gone for…gosh over 10 years now and those memories are dear..memories of him and laughing with Nicole…being silly and carefree.

we do this now with our candles: Nicole and i shop around for glass, and have a blast pouring melted wax, listening to music and sharing a bottle of wine (or a CSA margie)…talking of our family and laughing like we used to….we work it, but it is so much fun…the perfect occupation!

see family van in various forms at the store…please be warned, the good candles never lasts long!

funky organic fabrics

Filed under: design, products — admin @ 3:28 pm

when i think organic fabrics, even now, i still have this idea of simple tan fabric or maybe a slightly colored version that is most likely not going to cover anything in my home….way too boring! i need a little pizazz, color, style and personality…

thank goodness for HARMONY ART a true testimony to supporting organic cotton without sacrificing style. harmony has created some truly beautiful fabrics that are a perfect compliment to interiors but i like them simply hung, they are so beautiful! please check out her new line, they are not only unique and vibrant, but bring a certain kind of brightness that goes beyond a coat of fresh paint.

want to move?

Filed under: products, resources — admin @ 10:09 pm

in the long list of “thank you very much for saving my butt” is EARTH FRIENDLY MOVING

Spencer Brown, founder of the company has thought of probably one of the best ideas since the straw: providing quality, recycled, reusable moving items to make one of the most dreaded experiences in life a little easier.

Earth Friendly Moving, provides you with tough durable, recycled plastic cases & recycled packing material to transport or items from point A to B.

they drop off what you need, you pack & move…they pick it up when you are finished. all in a biodiesel truck too! no more cardboard assembly of all the dang boxes and then figuring out what to do with the mess, and really no more waste that results in moving!

Spencer and his company were the kindest people to offer their moving supplies for the show and i can tell you that it really made the difference…i much rather spend the time putting my stuff away then breaking down boxes and figuring out what i am going to do with 100 boxes that i used for about 1 hour…BRILLIANT.

a little somethin’-somethin’ about my neighbors

Filed under: design, products — admin @ 12:14 am

the show has been a great learning experience so far. but what i have really loved about it has been my neighbors across the way LOLL DESIGNS

a fantastic group of people making some serious outdoor furniture, these guys make the best looking, durable, well-designed patio elements that brings the outdoors to a completely other level—something to show off!

the pieces are made from recycled plastic (they even have a bench made from Tide bottles and it smells like…well you know), they do not fade with sun and have a sturdiness that will withstand the test of time.

the pieces cost a little more than conventional outdoor favors, but considering replacing, refinishing and renewing your standard brand, LOLL makes a serious bargin…you will want to sit outside in the dead of winter!

recently featured in the LA Times, you will be seeing a lot more of LOLL…in fact, these kind people are allowing us to take orders! in about 2 weeks we will carry a sample chair for you to experience for yourself why i love them so much.
