what i did last night: family van!

Filed under: personal, products — admin @ 10:01 pm

my niece Nicole & i live together.

and we really wanted to do something together, a “collaboration” if you may. so we decided to make soy candles in rejected-thrift store glasses…we call our collaboration: family van

my father, way back when, used to take the 2 of us, in the back of his van- without seats around town and would roll us around with his crazy driving. we had so much fun…laughing at the sharp turns and stops…no thought of a seatbelt…really no thought in the world but rolling around like, “jumping beans” as he would call us.

my father has been gone for…gosh over 10 years now and those memories are dear..memories of him and laughing with Nicole…being silly and carefree.

we do this now with our candles: Nicole and i shop around for glass, and have a blast pouring melted wax, listening to music and sharing a bottle of wine (or a CSA margie)…talking of our family and laughing like we used to….we work it, but it is so much fun…the perfect occupation!

see family van in various forms at the store…please be warned, the good candles never lasts long!

why so little posts?

August was supposed to be the “relaxing” month….sipping CSA magaritas, listening to some favorite tunes in the store, sweating the days away thinking about the upcoming holiday craziness that was to come.

in late July, we were contacted by the Southern California Home & Garden show and asked to do a booth, and we couldn’t miss the opportunity, so of course we will! only problem—we had to get it together in a little over 3 weeks!!! so that’s what we have been doing: frantically figuring out what the heck we are going to do for a booth (plus run a store). August has now been one of the craziest months besides december….

with a little (or i should say A LOT) of help from Dawn & Toni (2 interior designers from the Art Institute….thank you whomever is in charge of the universe for sending these 2 gifted lasses!) we pulled off a fantastic display. i have to admit, i was a little scared when i was told to paper-mache Sonotubes…there was many a late night dipping kraft paper into bins of elmer’s glue (not the perfect relaxing summer activity).

this is the before

yeah, i was scared, i have no vision for these types of things. but Dawn & Toni worked their magic and this is what resulted:

i have to admit, we have one of the better booths in the show! our floor is Flor (recycled polyester carpet tiles), the tops of the tubes are covered in clay paint (and the tubes make for convenient storage!), organic cotton fabric are the square panels on the walls, and wheatboard connects the tubes to fashion a desk area…welcome to my new home for the next 10 days!
