is Simple Green…green?

Filed under: products — admin @ 5:31 pm

People ask me all the time about Simple Green and whether it is really green (aka safe). I think most are really confused because of the name: hey what can be wrong with something that is simple and green!

I was able to find a little information on at least one ingredient in Simple Green:

butoxyethanol.jpg

“A key ingredient of Simple Green is butyl cellosolve, a substance considered toxic by the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. In lab tests, the liquid has destroyed red blood cells and caused minor birth defects in animals. When absorbed through the skin or inhaled, it has caused irritation around the eyes and noses of humans and headaches.”

Not only those great things but there are also reports that it may also lead to “reproductive problems, such as testicular damage, reduced fertility, death of embryos and birth defects.”

So far looks like Simple Bummer.

I have emailed Simple Green and requested a ingredients list(nothing yet). I will give them credit-they have a materials safety data sheet that you can down load (and they butyl cellosolve listed), but other than that i could not find anything else as far as ingredients.

has anyone heard anything else??

Of course i ripped through one bag before even putting them on the shelves…I amnot a sugar-freak, but more of a sour-freak and Yummy just came out with Sour Pops- score!!

These things are like crack- i always have a jar filled with them on the counter for people to grab. It’s funny too because people always say, “i can have one for free??” with a surprised face. Little do they know that they are going to be a YE-junkie in no time.

PS: did you see the bag on the lower right-Chili Pops for us spicy chicas! LOVE IT!

start your Yummy Earth addiction now~!

colored lamp project-2

Filed under: DIY, business/work, design — admin @ 3:44 pm

Finished up my version of Martha’s paper lamp project for our newest display here at the store. Story is as follows:

1. get yourself some paper lamps. I went to Ikea and right after that, found out about a place on-line that is 1/3rd the price….i still have a mark on my forehead from the slap. go to your local Michaels and grab a cheap set of watercolor paint (no not the little disks in the tray-boy did i feel stupid after i brought those home), you can get 10 for 4.99. while you are there, get 2 spray bottles (you dont need more, you just need to wash the ones you have)!

2. squirt the paint into the bottle (about1/4 of the container) and fill the rest with water. SHAKE well-this stuff likes to settle on the bottom.

3. spray the lamp (assembled, not flat) give about 1-2 feet distance from the lamp & keep rotating it or it is going to look like it should be at a Grateful Dead show. let them hang in the yard to dry.

4. hang. check it out! i love the way it looks from the side…very festive!

I am still getting over the shock of GM closing 4 of their truck-making plants…the looming (and already here!) fuel crunch has resulted in a 40% drop in over the past year for GM stock.

685gm_factoriessffstandaloneprod_affiliate101-copy.jpg

what is GM to do??  the shocker: get on the bandwagon and start making fuel-efficient/hybrid vehicles! and according to someone who who manages more than $700 million in assets, “they’re launching more hybrids this year than any other company”. this is probably going to happen in 2 years (when there are plenty of other makers doing the same thing-go innovation GM!)
so am i happy?? YES!  all together now:

oil is a finite energy source and we will try to behave like it is!

i just can’t wrap my mind around how behind GM is, and to be honest, i am embarrassed.  maybe it’s me-I’m no corporate exec/automotive expert/market annalist, but it doesn’t take 2 seconds to realize that oil is not going to last.  It makes me mad that these “experts” at GM have jeopardized hundreds if not thousands of employees b/c they wanted to make a fast buck.  funny, in this article, i also read:

“Our goal is not just to return GM to profitability, but to structure GM globally for sustained profitability and growth[…]”

what ever happened to just being SUSTAINABLE??? if they just did that, they could be like Toyota, Honda, or some others who have been thinking/doing this for, well more than just the past year.

spend your $$ wisely people.
